How it works
Bicycles have become integral parts of many homes where people are conscious of both their health and the environment. As more and more are beginning to use cycles to run errands or just enjoy the feeling of freedom it gives, cycle manufacturers have started introducing many new models of bicycles that appeal to the new generation of cyclists. These bicycles are not only state of the art but are fairly expensive. In order to protect their bicycles form theft many owners have chosen to insure their cycles.
Almost all bikes can be insured today. Starting from children bikes to triathlon bikes and mountain bikes there are providers that are willing to insure your very valuable form of transport.
Insurance companies’ cover for cycles covers casual cyclists as well as adventure cyclists and most companies offer a particular type of cover for each of the categories of bikes. While Accidental and Theft insurance are common to both categories, adventure cyclists are also covered for Roadside Recovery and travel insurance.
The amount that is paid as premium for the cover is normally around 7 to 20 pounds per 1000 pounds that anyone wishes to insure their bike for. These are collected either as one payment or in installments, depending on the choice of the person taking out the insurance. If at all a claim is made on the insurance cover, then an additional 5% payment may be added on to the premium amount already being paid. These premium amounts may be paid either by credit or debit card making this a simple transaction.
If one is making a claim, all one has to do is to first inform the police of the theft or the accident that the cycle has faced. When making the claim it is necessary to produce the receipt of purchase of the cycle and all the accessories that the claim is being made for. In the case of replacement of vehicle, the insurance company ensures delivery of the replacement within 2 to 5 working days and if it is repairs that need to be claimed, the insurance companies take less than 5 days to get thee repairs done.
Most companies work 24 hours and respond immediately to either a phone call or an email from the affected party. Most insurance providers respond to roadside assistance requests and one call to them ensures the speedy arrival of roadside assistance.
Insurance providers have very few demands to make when one wants to make a claim. The few instructions that the companies ask them to follow are:
- Keep all documentation regarding the bike in a handy place.
- Fill the claim form properly and attach all requested documents.
- Make copies of whatever is sent to the companies .
- Respond immediately if any queries are made.
If all cyclists who seek insurance cover were to follow these basic ground rules, then claiming insurance for their bikes could be as wonderful as the ride that they enjoy.
